About this site:
Ever wanted the inside scoop on being a preschool teacher? You’ve come to the right place!
For families, teachers, and caregivers of all kinds, I hope this site can provide you with resources and support in your work with young children.
Check out my ever-evolving portfolio of work I’ve created for use in the classroom (Portfolio). Skim the list of resources my colleagues and I have used to inform and improve our teaching (Teaching Resources). Comment with questions or recommendations for the kinds of kid-friendly content you’d like to see (comments and Contact). And, for those residing in Buncombe County, NC, I am also available for private childcare and pet care (Care Services).
Please note: as of March 2020 this site is undergoing a significant renovation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the resulting school closings, and my responsibility to provide supportive, high-quality online learning content for my students and their families. Some resources and items in my portfolio may therefore be designed specifically for my children, mentioning features of our school or names of mutual contacts. However, I hope that the bulk of what can be found here is helpful for all.
About me:
I got my start in education at the age of 14, when I began assisting in the summer preschool program at a private school where I live in Western North Carolina. Every summer throughout high school and college I returned to this preschool in a greater capacity. During my time away at college I worked as a K-5 tutor and a Preschool-Kindergarten after-school teacher. When I moved back to the WNC area in 2015, I jumped right back into working at local preschools. I love being in the classroom, but in the next few years I plan to move into administration.
My teaching practice is informed by multiple big-name pedagogies, including Montessori, Waldorf, and Reggio Emilia. I strive to learn from every teacher with whom I cross paths, and to assimilate their knowledge and skills into my practice. But regardless of all these influences, the core of my teaching is love and connection with children as unique, complete, and complex individuals. Everything I do in teaching stems from this place.
I have had quite a unique and complex educational experience myself: tiny, medium, big, home, public, private, honors, liberal arts, state, online, community, transfer, part-time, and full-time are all adjectives used to describe my schooling. I’ve been all over the map, which I believe keeps my mind open to new ideas and approaches in the educational world.
In Spring 2019 I graduated with my degree and my North Carolina Birth-Kindergarten teaching license and a Bachelor’s of Science in Child Development. I love a good opportunity for professional enrichment, and I try to keep learning more about my field — and life — every day.
Any questions? Raise a quiet hand and I will call on you as soon as I get the chance.
